About Pokeka Gold
Founder & sole beekeeper, Jack Larsen, is the 4th generation from the Larsen’s hill country farm, in the depths of remote New Zealand. The Larsen’s farm has been in the family for over 100 years.
Jack's Great Grandfather ‘Frederick Larsen’ bought the property in 1920! Rich in history and full of character, Jack takes great pride in keeping its treasures just as they are for future generations to enjoy.
The name “Pokeka Gold” is derived from the Pokeka Stream. Fueled by a sub-tropical rainforest, the Pokeka Stream flows out of the rainforest, through the Larsens property for some 8kms and into the Waitotara River.
A truly breathtaking location, where the Mānuka grows thick and the sound of nature sings aloud.
It’s just part of why we think our Mānuka Honey tastes so good!
This is one of the most remote places in New Zealand. In fact, our hives are located at the very end of one of the longest no exit roads in New Zealand!
To get to our happy little honey bees, we follow the Waitotara river inland for 57kms, to a gravel road, across the bridge and finally to the Larsen’s remote sheep and beef hill country farm. Then fly a further 5kms in a helicopter following the Pokeka Stream.
Where we meet our cherished bees, working tirelessly on the Mānuka flower, to bring you this precious honey.
